Becoming registered in Australia

International Medical Graduates (IMGs) are integral to the delivery of medical services in rural and remote Australia. At the College, we are experienced at developing and delivering a number of assessment and support programs for IMGs.

We are here to help IMGs like you to enter general practice in Australia and expand your career opportunities. There are a range of pathways that may suit your particular situation:

  1. The Standard pathway is for non-specialist doctors who want to practise in Australia. It results in limited registration
  2. The Specialist pathway is for doctors with equivalent GP qualifications from approved countries. It will result in Fellowship of the College and specialist registration, or
  3. The Ad eundum gradum assessment for holders of Fellowship at approved international Colleges.

Note: both the Workplace Based Assessment and Competent Authority programs closed on 1 July 2014.

No matter where you are in the world, if you decide to start the process of moving to Australia to live, and work, as a rural generalist, then by joining the college as an associate member, you can gain access to our range of services and member benefits that will help you on your way.
