Multi Choice Question assessment

Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) assessment is a reliable method to test your applied knowledge, recall and reasoning across the curriculum content. Your MCQ will be conducted as follows:

  • online - either somewhere local for you or at a central College-approved location
  • delivered by secure internet-based software
  • consist of 125 questions
  • over three hours.


You must complete 12 months training to be eligible for the MCQ.

The College strongly recommends that you have at least six months experience in rural community primary care prior to sitting this assessment.

Preparing for MCQ

MCQ assesses knowledge across the primary curriculum. The MCQ public reports released after each assessment provide a list of topics covered in the assessment.

To optimise your performance in MCQ, you should have a breadth of experience in the contexts of rural practice. You should commence study at a minimum six months prior to sitting MCQ.

To assist you to prepare for MCQ, you should complete the online MCQ familiarisation activity that is available after you have enrolled in the assessment. You could also consider forming a study group or you could seek a study buddy through the College's Registrar's Facebook group.
